White Rock Lake is centered in the heart of Dallas and the only recreational lake in the area. The lake is rich in flora and fauna, and on the southwest shore, a colony of wild parrots have made the lake their home. Other amenities within the park area are Dallas’ first dog park, Winfrey Point, The Bathhouse Cultural center, The Boat House, and the Dallas Arboretum. The park also has a 9.3 mile jogging and bike trail that encompasses the lake, making for year round pleasure.
The area is one of Dallas’ special settings and is bordered south to west by Highway 30, Loop 12 or Northwest Highway, Highway 75 or Central Expressway and Ferguson Road.
Other points of interest which can be found in East Dallas are the famous landmark, Fair Park which is best for the annual State Fair of Texas which lasts four weeks during Sept. through Oct. In the center of this complex the Cotton Bowl is found which most recognize because of the yearly Texas Oklahoma football game along with other sporting events in the area. The Aquarium, the Science Museum, the Hall of Fame and the Women’s Museum are also located in East Dallas.
