Converse is a city that continues to grow and develop. It lies on Farm Road 1976, 13 miles NE of downtown San Antonio which is in northeastern Bexar County. The city got its name from the historic major James Converse who used to be the chief engineer at the Southern Pacific Railroad Corp. Converse is actually a suburb of San Antonio with an approximate population of 16,000 residents as of 2009. The city was incorporated in 1961 under a home rule charter and a council manager form of government.
Converse is largely a Christian community with churches such as the Agape Fellowship Baptist Church, Converse Hispanic Baptist, Converse First Baptist Church, Iglesia Casa De Dios Puerta Del Cielo, St. Monica’s Catholic Church, Maranatha bible Church, New Life Baptist Church and new Hope united Methodist Church. The city currently has one hospital within its city limits which is the NE Methodist Hospital at IH 35 and Toepperwein. It also hosts two beautiful recreational parks: the Converse North Park and the Converse City Park. The Converse Post Office is located at Schaefer Rd.
