Founded in 1873, the area has since grown and prospered as a farming community that has crop of corn, cotton, hay, and sugar, using railroad transportation for exportation. However, after WWII, there was great growth in the suburban element of Mesquite, with a population growth from 1,696 in 1950 to 55,131 by 1970. In ’86 the Resistol Arena, then known as Mesquite Arena, was first opened for the Mesquite Championship Rodeo, which was expanded in ’98 with a new Convention Center, Hampton Inn & Suites, and an Exhibition Hall.
There are several schools in the city which are located in the Mesquite ISD, the Dallas ISD, and even the Forney ISD. There are five public schools and the Dallas Christian High School within the area.
