State unemployment rate reaches new low
Posted by Michael Pannell on Friday, April 11th, 2008 at 10:49am.Texas' unemployment rate dropped to 4.1 percent in February, a 30-year low. The Texas Workforce Commission credited bullish employers, who added a total of 13,500 jobs statewide, and 235,000 jobs during the past year. The seasonally adjusted 4.1 percent is well below the national average of 4.8 percent. "Our falling unemployment, coupled with this month's significant job gains, indicates the sustained health and vitality of the Texas economy," said newly appointed TWC Chairman Tom Pauken.

Mike, How awesome that the Texas economy is holding up so well! We are equally fortunate in Madison WI with an unemployment rate ranging between 2-4%. Sure, we have some layoffs but the overall picture, including job growth for 2009, is looking very good. We even have a few neighborhoods on the near East and West sides of the Capitol that are back to a balanced or even a seller's market. It is these small signs of hope that will get us through what may still turn out to be a very challenging year for Realtors.
