Ronald McDonald House of Dallas breaks ground on new home

Dallas Texas Real Estate

Ronald McDonald House of Dallas has raised more than $19 million so far to build a new 60-bedroom home away from home for families with children undergoing treatment in area hospitals. The house will be at 4707 Bengal St., near Children's Medical Center Dallas and Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. Ground has been broken for the project that is expected to open in summer 2009. The plans call for about $18 million for construction plus endowments to provide ongoing funds for food and maintenance. The new facility, which will be twice as big as the existing one, reflects a growing need as increasing numbers of families bring their children to Dallas for medical care, said Barbara McDermott, executive director of Ronald McDonald House of Dallas. The agency raised $6 million from selling land, including the site of the existing house.
