Chesapeake Energy has captured the attention of businesses, homeowners and Fort Worth with its purchase of a circa-1960s shopping center in the southwest part of the city for a possible drilling site. The Oklahoma City-based company confirmed that it bought the Southcliff Shopping Center, at the southeast corner of Granbury Road and Interstate 20. The City of Fort Worth is keeping an eye on that property because it wants to see a park-and-ride train station built there for a rail line that is proposed to run from southwest Fort Worth to Dallas/Fort Worth Airport. According to the Tarrant Appraisal District, the entire Weingarten tract is about 12.75 acres.
