The city of Azle is located about 16 miles northwest of downtown Fort Worth on State Highway 199.  Azle is mainly located in Tarrant County but also extends into parts of Parker and Wise counties. 

The first recorded settlement in Azle occured in 1846 by James Azle Steward.  At that time, the town economy was agriculture.

During the 1930s, state highway 199 finally made its way in from downtown Fort Worth.  This greatly improved transportation from Azle to other areas.  With the highway, the economy made a change from agriculture to housing developments.

The town's proximity to Fort Worth and its position as the "Gateway to Eagle Mountain Lake" have made Azle a popular place to live.
